History of Achievements of Abhinav Bindra:

Made a junior world record score of 597/600 in 2001 Munich World Cup and won bronze; gold in 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games; became the first Indian shooter to win a World Championship gold; Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2001.

Abhinav Bindra is the brightest star among a new breed of talented Indian shooters. Born on September 28, 1983, Bindra is quite often criticized for not delivering on the promise he showed as a child prodigy.

Coming from an affluent family and with the luxury of an indoor range in his backyard, Bindra proved to an early bird and, at 15, was the youngest participant at the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Bindra shot into limelight by winning a bronze in the 2001 Munich World Cup with a new junior world record score of 597/600.

In the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, competing in his pet Air rifle event, Bindra won Gold in the Pairs event and Silver in the individual event. During a purple patch, Bindra won six gold medals at various international meets in the European Circuit in 2001. He was conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award for the year 2001.

In the 2004 Athens Olympics, despite breaking the Olympic record Bindra failed to win a medal. But on July 24, 2006, Bindra became the first Indian shooter to win a World Championship gold in Zagreb. Dr. Karni Singh's silver in 1962 was the previous best by an Indian in a World Championship meet.

Abhinav wins gold!

The 25-year-old Abhinav was poise and grace personified as he talked about his attaining Olympic immortality and its possible ramifications in a country that remains almost biased towards cricket.

"I sincerely hope my medal changes the face of India's Olympic sports," the bespectacled shooter told reporters after winning India's first individual gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle event at the Beijing Shooting Range at the Beijing Olympics on Monday.

President, PM congratulate Bindra

Asked when he realised that he was at the threshold of history, Abhinav said, "I was not bothered about history. All I wanted to was to shoot aggressively and score well and that's exactly what I did.

"I started my sighting on a poor note but soon things started going my way and it remained so. I guess this was my day."

Abhinav, whose career at one stage was jeopardised by a nagging back injury, said it was not easy to keep himself keyed up all along.

"I worked hard, left home and trained in Germany [Images]. It only proves that if you keep working hard, you would have your day someday and fortunately, it was my day today.
"My parents, family and coaches stood by me all along and I owe it to them," he said.

Mrs Burgess have Longest Hair in Britain?

Mrs Burgess, a divorcee with five children aged between 45 and 31, said there was one moment when she almost gave it the chop.

'With five children it was a pain and I remember grabbing my ponytail in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other and going to chop it all off once, but I saw how long it was and couldn't bring myself to do it. Since then I've worn it in a tight bun and I only take it down twice a year to give it a wash with baby shampoo.

'It's the best product for stopping it getting tangled which is great as it takes between two and three hours to comb as it is.

'I have to do it with my fingers as brushes just get caught up in it and then I lay it out across the garden on a sunny day and wait for it to dry.

'People think washing it every six months means it's dirty but it's in great condition as your hair is designed to clean itself with natural oils. These people who wash theirs everyday are destroying it.'

Aussie the Goldfish that swims upside down

These days pet fish come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Indeed, the ordinary goldfish has come to seem just that.
But Aussie, who shares a tank on pub bar, is rarely viewed with indifference. In fact, she is rather a star attraction.

She has spent the last four years of her life upside down and - as far as anyone can tell - is perfectly comfortable with this.

'We've had her checked out and she's in good health - I suppose she just likes to see the world from that point of view,' said her owner landlord Liam Matthews, 53.

He bought the goldfish from a pet shop in 2004 and says she has since become something of a tourist attraction. Mr Matthews said: 'When I bought Aussie she was swimming normally but six months later she was swimming about upside down. She seems happy enough.'

Aussie shares a tank on the bar at the Globe Inn, near Exeter, with another fish Eddie - who swims normally.
